Saint Gabriel Communications -
International
In 1998, in the Archdiocese of Perth, Western Australia, a new
standard was raised to defend the Faith of the Apostles among
the Catholic laity ‘down under’ by means of putting Logic at the
service of the Faith to re-evangelize the baptized - Saint
Gabriel Communications, founded by Raymond and Theresa de
Souza.
From its office located
at the Cathedral Parish Centre and counting on the blessing and
support of His Grace the Archbishop of Perth and Metropolitan of
Western Australia, the Most Reverend Barry J Hickey, Saint
Gabriel Communications set in motion a series of talks on
Catholic Apologetics in Catholic schools and parishes.
The series lasted for
twelve weeks, and covered the essentials of the Faith: The
Divinity of Jesus
Christ; His Resurrection; the Church He founded; His Real
Presence in the Eucharist; the Sacrificial nature of the Mass;
the Marian dogmas; the Papacy; pontifical infallibility were
among the topics chosen to address at the Cathedral Parish
Centre.
Soon talks were given in
other parishes and Catholic schools, and shortly thereafter
Saint Gabriel Communications hit the airwaves with the first
weekly Catholic radio broadcast: “Sounds Catholic”,
produced and hosted by Raymond de Souza and sponsored by
the Most Rev. Barry Hickey, Archbishop of Perth. In his section,
“Radio Replies,” Raymond answered write-in questions on
faith and morals.
The success of that program led to a live
call-in talk show called “The Layman’s Hour” which he
produced with his wife, Theresa. Every Sunday evening for two
years, Raymond and Theresa enlivened the airwaves with news,
interviews, reports and animated exchanges with callers. The
Layman’s Hour was the first and only live
talk show run by Catholics in Western Australia.
But St Gabriel Communications did
not remain in Western Australia: regular speaking tours were
organized in all states of Australia. Catholics in Melbourne,
Sydney, Canberra, Hobart and Brisbane plus a variety of small
cities in the interior attended the talks given by Raymond on a
variety of subjects, especially of late on the issue of the
Islamization of the Western world and the suitable response of
Catholics.
Today hundreds of Catholics in all
Australian states receive CD’s and audiotapes Saint Gabriel
Communications on a monthly basis in two distinct
apostolates: the
Legion of Saint Gabriel (training of the laity to
defend the Faith) and the
Marian
Eucharistic Alliance
(Devotion to Jesus in the Eucharist and the rediscovery of
the sense of the Sacred in Catholic liturgy).
For the first time in her
History, Australia exports Catholic Apologetics!
From Australia,
conference tours were organized in the United States, England,
Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Austria, France, Portugal, South
Africa and Singapore.
In
the United States, Saint Gabriel Communications works in
close cooperation with the New Evangelization Office of the
National Shrine of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Pennsylvania, of
which Raymond is the Chairman.
Speaking engagements may be booked for Raymond to address a
variety of Catholic issues anywhere in the U.S. and Canada, in
English, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
His talks are also
available in CD format from St Gabriel
Communications.
From radio St Gabriel Communications has
already expanded to television: Raymond’s work has been featured
on EWTN Global Catholic network. His first series,
“Good
or Evil: Who Decides?” reaches millions of
homes worldwide via satellite, cable and internet. This
is already available in DVD format. His second series,
“Jesus Christ, true God and True Man”, masterly
defends the divinity of Jesus in the face of the growth
of secularism, agnosticism and Islam.
Under the aegis of the Archangel St Gabriel, who brought the
good news of Christ’s Incarnation to the Blessed Virgin Mary,
St Gabriel Communications co-operates with like apostolates in
Oceania and North America and expands its work of Catholic Apologetics
worldwide today, putting Logic at the Service of the Faith to
Re-evangelize the Baptized.
